Malavika Anand
– The budding, talented musician from Hyderabad


Family History:

 

Malavika Anand, hails from a humble, Hyderabad based family of music lovers.  Malavika is born to Tokela Vivekananda and Mrs Suchitha. On the paternal side, Malavika is the granddaughter of Late Sri TSN Swamy, a retired IAS Officer of the erstwhile state of undivided Andhra Pradesh. On the maternal side, her mother’s grandfather is Late Sri M Shamanna, an accomplished Violin Maestro who was one of the Asthana Vidwans of the renowned Mysore Maharaja Palace, Karnataka.  

 

Personal traits:

 

Interestingly therefore, Malavika’s genes embodied from both the maternal and paternal sides makes her a person who is doing wonderful in her academics (presently pursuing Intermediate second year) while undertaking a composed journey in the Carnatic / Devotional form of music. Her penchant towards music is very high and adorable.  She is aspiring to pursue music at its best and devotes lot of time doing sadhana.  Her ambition is not to just to stick to music, but develop a good career too.  While she has strong academics on her side, she intends to get into the profession of Secretarial Practice (Company Secretaries).

 

Music beginning, learning and continuation:

 

It all started at the age of around 3 years,  Malavika used to very keenly watch and hear to mostly the Television Advertisements, in particular the music and the related quickie songs.  Her parents were amazed to notice that she was super fast in picking up and repeating the same without a flaw next time when the ads played on Television.  This curiosity of the child in Malavika and the inherent, hidden talent, her ears and tone and tune to Music was well noticed on time by the parents.  It was then that they got her under the tutelage and guidance of Kalanidhi Smt. Revathi Ratnaswamy, an eminent Carnatic music exponent, former principal of Music College, Hyderabad. 

 

And without any doubt, Malavika imbibed the best of the music from her Guru Mrs Revathi Ratnaswamy who imparted in training her Sishya in Malavika to learn with devotion and commitment. 


After her learning for 2-3 years with Mrs Revathi Ratnaswamy, Malavika took to further learning carnatic music from the most popular and adorable Hyderabad Sisters, Lalitha Priya and Hari Priya.    She has also started learning devotional music from the most famous Smt. Nitya Santoshini.

 

With the strong will to excel in Music and with dedication, devotion and discipline, Malavika is very regular to her learning classes and does sadhana for long hours.    Malavika is very grateful to all her gurus in training her and making her perform better and better and she is indebted to them for bringing out the best in her.

 

Performances as an accomplished artiste:

 

Malavika has so far given more than a hundred concerts all over South India.  She has performed in Temples like Tirumala (Tirupati), Bhadrachalam, Vemulawada, Basara, these are just to name a few. The karnataka Governament invited malavika to perform in renowned Mysore Royal Palace during Dasara Festival. She got lots of accolades here.  She also performed at the World Telugu Conference which was held in Tirupati (period to be mentioned). 

 

Malavika can perform Classical, Semi classical and Devotional forms of music and can relentlessly render classical keerthanas by all Vaggeyakaras viz., Thyagaraja, Annama Charya, as also noteworthy compositions of patriotic and devotional song writers.    She can sing fluently in five Indian languages i.e. Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Marathi.  Her renditions are so devout, divine that one can feel the finesse and zest with which she involves herself connecting to her mind and soul and bringing out the bhavam with the composition held in best.  Malavika is a rare combination of agility, grace, talent, strong willed, traditional but modern, totally a substance of unique model in music.

 

Malavika’s accomplishments

 

At her budding age of 9, Malavika recorded her 1st CD Album on Devotion Music titled “Srihari Sankeerthana” which has about 17 songs in four languages.  This brought lots of applause from all quarters of musicians and music lovers.  Encouraged by this response, at her age of 10, she recorded another CD album on “Ramadas Keerthanas”.  This too was a good rendering and received best of laurels.

 

Several recognitions and awards are conferred on this young, talented, passionate musician, to name a few..India Book of Records; Telugu Book of Records Unique World Records and so on.  She is recipient of Bala Ratna Award, Yuva Ratna Award and Yuva Gana Kokila Award. 


Malavika focus and future ambition

 

Malavika simply adores Music in all forms.  However, like every individual has a role model, for her it is none other than the Music legend, maestro, most divine, Bharath RSSatna Smt. M S Subbulakshmi Amma garu.  Malavika has set her standards so high and challenging herself to reach the pinnacles of Music like what Mrs Subbulakshmi Amma garu has done and proved to the world. 

 

Belief:

 

Malavika strongly believes in staying committed to her passion for Music, her dedication, discipline in tact in learning, doing sadhana and performances, each time and every time, brings out better and enhances the thrill within her to do better and better.  This goading interest and involvement of this prodigy will definitely get her to reach the peak of achievements. 

 

Dream comes true:

 

All these efforts and results of performances, no doubt are dream comes true factor of Malavika first, her parents next, her Gurus to substitute in imparting training and then all her well wishers.
